Tech Climbers announces partnership with techUK as inaugural Manchester list opens entries

On Wednesday morning (19th July 23) we officially kicked off our Tech Climbers campaign in Greater Manchester and opened entries and nominations for a place on our list of trailblazing tech start-ups and scale-ups. Fuelled with tea, coffee and pastries thanks to Burntwood SciTech, we had an amazing morning meeting founders, advisors and decision-makers from the region, and hearing about the opportunities and challenges scaling a tech business in the region.

Tech Climbers, an annual list of the top performing, innovative product-led technology businesses across the UK, has announced a new national partnership with techUK, the UK’s technology trade association. The partnership marks the next phase of growth for Tech Climbers, as the 2023 Manchester campaign opened for entries.

Teaming up with techUK is the latest in multiple partnerships for Tech Climbers, after joining forces with The Data City earlier this year. The national collaboration with techUK will elevate the work of Tech Climbers in regions across the UK, reaching a wider audience.

The latest Tech Climbers campaign opened for entries in Manchester on the 19th of July, following a launch event at Bruntwood SciTech’s No.1 Circle Sq in Manchester city centre. The event hosted by Mo Aldalou, advisor at Tech Climbers and programme director at Baltic Ventures, brought together panels of founders and investors, to talk about their lived experiences of raising investment, with 100 attendees from the Manchester tech scene.

Manchester was selected as the latest region for Tech Climbers to launch in due to the incredible growth of the area’s tech sector, with 23 deals done and over £418m of investment in the last 12 months, according to The Data City*.

Anna Heyes, Founder at Tech Climbers and CEO of Active Profile said:

“The reason we founded Tech Climbers back in 2019 was to celebrate and showcase innovative businesses in tech clusters across the UK. As we go, we aim to gather data on the businesses so we can tell a story about each region’s tech sector, and that’s what makes us different.

This year, we’ve really thought about how we can tell those stories, and that’s why we’ve embarked on a national partnership with Tech UK - so that we can map out growth, investment levels and eco-systems in tech sectors across the UK.

Our inaugural Manchester launch is exciting, with the sheer number of innovative businesses creating great things, the level of investment across the region and the opportunities created for local people.”

Matt Robinson, Head of Nations and Regions at techUK added:

“techUK is delighted to be working with and supporting Tech Climbers. We are in an important period for the UK tech sector with many technological changes helping drive new ideas, concepts, and companies. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy for scaling tech companies.

“That’s why it’s important we celebrate and recognise companies doing brilliant things, growing, collaborating in new ways, and securing new investment. I encourage people and companies to enter, and I can’t wait to find out more about them and their work.”

This year’s sponsors for Manchester Tech Climbers include: Brabners, BurnsSheehan, MHA Baker Tilly, Marks & Clerk, Mercia Asset Management and TD Synnex. Associate partners are The Data City, Exchange, Innovateher, Manchester Digital, Manchester Angels, Manchester Tech Festival, STFC and techUK.

Tech businesses in Manchester making a social or economic impact, who are set up to scale and investment-ready, driving innovation can enter their business, or nominate on the Tech Climbers website.

Entries close on the 16th of August, with a celebration event to reveal this year’s Manchester Tech Climbers in October 2023.
